How extreme should future planning be? The Long Now Foundation (longnow.org), which is an organization that supports long term thinking is planning for the year 10000. Is this a waste of money or a worthwhile plan?

Motivation

I was just wondering. Is motivation the right way to go? If we need to get something done is it a good thing to rely on motivation? Or is it better to use will power instead?
